AshleyMadison.com is ripping off married people who no longer need the website’s extramarital services by lying about deleting their info … according to the state of NY, anyway.
State Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman filed a lawsuit against AshleyMadison.com, saying it deceives customers with a $19 charge for what it calls the “full delete.” It’s nothing like the Full Monty.
AM offers the option for departing users who want to make sure their profiles are scrubbed from the site, including all messages and photos. But the state AG says all that info is actually retained for up to 12 months and sometimes longer.
The suit says up to 7,989 users in NY state bought the option.
In the docs, the state AG points out the “full delete” option did nothing to protect hundreds of thousands of users whose info was exposed during the site’s infamous 2015 security breach.
The suit seeks to collect damages for all the affected cheaters customers.
