Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez — and the other 2 people killed in a Sept. boat crash — had a “strong odor of alcohol” emanating from their bodies when they were pulled from the water … officials say.
Officials have released the search warrant affidavit into the Sept. 25th incident — which says divers had to recover all 3 bodies … and they all had a strong odor of alcohol.
Investigators also say there is evidence that the driver of the boat was speeding and his “recklessness” was “exacerbated by the consumption of alcohol.”
Officials have not confirmed Fernandez was the driver — but note that most of his friends suspect he was because he had just met one of the other passengers … and the 3rd man had little boating experience.
TMZ Sports broke the story … Fernandez had been partying at the American Social waterfront bar shortly before the crash. Officials say they found a receipt for alcohol from the bar in the pocket of one of the victims.
As for toxicology — the tests are complete but the results have not been released yet.
